Is The Vizsla The Right Breed For Me?
The Vizsla is an old breed from Hungary. Vizslas were bred as hunting dogs to work in close proximity to their master, pointing prey and retrieving to hand. The biddable and loving disposition of these dogs resulted in their being close members of the family. Living fully up to their oft used label "Velcro Dog", Vizslas are demonstratively affectionate, an ever-present and constant loving companion. Vizslas are inquisitive, intelligent, energetic and very affectionate.
Their personality is sunny with an uncanny enthusiasm for life. A Vizsla that displays nervousness, shyness or aggressiveness is not in character with the breed and should not be recommended for breeding.
The Vizsla thrives on participation. Activities such as hunting, hiking, agility, retrieving and swimming are just a few that will make your Vizsla healthier and happier. They enjoy playing with other dogs and are compatible with cats when introduced early. Vizslas are among those special breeds that are used as service dogs for the multi-handicapped.
Breeding Program
I am an AKC Breeder of Merit. CH Happy Tails Chelsea Haraan was my foundation bitch, and descending from her are many Bench Champions; Senior Hunters; Obedience Champions; and Therapy Dogs. It has been and continues to be a privilege to work with my canine friends. Breeding has been done carefully and with transparency, with special attention to minimizing health issues. Extensive screening tests and pedigree research is performed before breedings are arranged. Preventive medicine is practiced in regard to immunizations and topical preventatives.
As a member of the Vizsla Club of America (VCA), Vizsla Club of Greater New York (VCGNY) and Connecticut Valley Vizsla Club (CVVC), I have been fortunate enough to be amongst those breeders who take the standard as crucial to preservation of the breed, thereby producing even more beautiful, stable and loving Vizslas. I practice a "no compromise" prioritized breeding program, and believe in being available to my puppy families for the duration of the life of their Vizslas.
My goal is to preserve the versatility of the Vizsla, and I strive for each puppy to reach his or her full potential. Health & Temperament Share #1 Priority! After trying to ensure health and temperament, I concentrate on conformation (AKC standard, because faulty conformation can lead to a host of problems); hunting (the goal being to enhance innate instinct); and obedience (the goal being to function in a responsive and safe manner).
